Our Approach
At Raising Gabdho Foundation (RGF), our environmental interventions are grounded in a holistic and integrated approach, always incorporating awareness-raising and educational activities. Evidence shows that the empowerment and accountability of individuals and communities play a crucial role in environmental preservation. These elements are key for the long-term sustainability of reforestation, waste management, land restoration, and awareness-raising projects.
Our Interventions
RGF’s environmental interventions encompass a wide range of integrated activities across various projects, whether focused specifically on the environment or in conjunction with sectors such as agriculture, education, child protection, and sustainable cities. Our initiatives include:
Environmental Education, Awareness, and School Clubs: We target children, teachers, local authorities, local CSOs, families, farmers, communities, and private companies with educational and awareness activities. These include road shows, theatre, sports and play (orange economy), curricular activities, community meetings, radio programs, guidance brochures, technical trainings, apps, social media, and more. Additionally, we establish and support environmental clubs in schools to foster environmental stewardship among students through practical activities, education, and engagement in conservation projects.
Our waste management initiatives focus on the production of briquettes from energy-rich waste, creating biochar, and utilizing banana fiber for weaving cooking baskets to help households reduce the cost of cooking. We also recycle plastics into sanitation products, transforming plastic and paper waste into reusable items. Furthermore, we promote compost production for soil fertilization, benefiting farmers and rural households by enhancing soil health and agricultural productivity.
Tree Production and Reforestation: We engage in tree production and reforestation within agribusiness promotion and forest protection interventions. This includes planting trees in schools, household gardens, and public spaces within urban areas to restore land and raise awareness, particularly involving students.
Water Bank and Land Restoration: We protect and restore water banks by planting vegetation and implementing erosion control measures, ensuring the health and sustainability of vital water resources. Additionally, our efforts include land recovery for agribusiness, promoting bee reproduction, and other biodiversity protection activities to ensure sustainable land use and conservation.
Research and Planning: We conduct studies and develop plans addressing forest degradation and its causes. This involves the participatory design of mitigation and adaptation interventions to effectively combat environmental challenges.
Through these comprehensive and integrated activities, RGF is committed to environmental preservation, fostering sustainable practices, and empowering communities to take an active role in protecting and restoring their natural surroundings.
Our environmental interventions support:
SDG 15: Life on Land: We focus on reforestation, land restoration, and biodiversity protection.
SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation: We protect and restore water banks, ensuring the sustainability of vital water resources.
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production: Our waste management initiatives promote recycling and sustainable resource use.
